Elizabeth Pedersen Lewis

Elizabeth Lewis was born and raised in the lower mainland. She graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Criminology.

After taking some time away from university to work at the 1986 World Expo as a Guest Relations manager, Elizabeth returned to her education and completed law school in 1989 at the University of Victoria. While at law school Elizabeth had many academic successes winning no less than 15 awards and scholarships, including prizes in evidence, employment law, taxation and legal drafting. She was ultimately awarded the Law Society Gold Medal for achieving top academic standing in her law school graduating class.

Prior to her articles, Ms. Lewis clerked to the highly regarded Mr. Justice Douglas Lambert at the British Columbia Court of Appeal, where she had the first hand opportunity to observe and learn the ins and outs of appellate practice.

Ms. Lewis completed her articles at the Vancouver office of McCarthy Tetrault, where she remained as an associate lawyer for several years after her call to the bar in 1991. During her time at McCarthy Tetrault Ms. Lewis had the opportunity to work with and learn from many pre-eminent and distinguished counsel including, Leonard Doust Q.C., Winton Derby Q.C., Rosemarie Wertschek Q.C. and David Crossin Q.C.

After leaving McCarthy Tetrault, Ms. Lewis dedicated her practice to criminal defence work. She has defended all manner of Criminal Code charges from shoplifting to first degree murder charges. She has also defended countless Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges and other drug related offences. A firm believer in mentoring younger members of the profession, Ms. Lewis has volunteered her time as a supervising lawyer with the University of British Columbia Criminal Clinical Program since 1997.

Elizabeth Lewis joined our firm in 2005 where she now acts as managing partner. She enjoys the challenges of criminal defence work and believes fundamentally in the right of all accused persons to a fair and impartial hearing.
